Anissa Pemberton

My name is Anissa, and I use they/them and she/her pronouns. Coming out as LGBTQ+ can be a big decision for any person. Many experience going through a “second adolescence” or are teenagers when they are coming out. I want to go deeper into vulnerabilities that emerge in LGBTQ+ identity development, supporting clients to explore these emotions in a safe environment. I can support teenagers (14+ years old) and adults in this identity development. Building high self-esteem as an LGBTQ+ person can joyful and meaningful, but also scary in the uncertainty.

I am also excited to support their families and communities as well in navigating these changes with hope and care. Each person is a unique person with numerous strengths to tap into. There can be grief that comes with these identity developments and shifts, but there is also hope in remaining grounded in the love for each person.

Having grown up as a queer child in a biracial, bicultural, traditional family in rural Illinois, I have experience with the challenges of navigating different needs in families and building strong bonds across difference. My approach is grounded in building a strong relationship with you as a client – a flexible, accountable, collaborative, and meaningful relationship that supports you in your goals.

Healing relationships and building individual resilience takes time. I am here to offer support to people, knowing that ultimately healing relies on each person finding their path. I am excited to walk on this path with you.
