Welcome! My name is Theresa, and I truly believe everyone can benefit from therapy. I am excited that you have chosen to pursue self-growth through counseling! As a therapist, I feel deeply honored to sit with people as they share their personal journeys, and enjoy partnering with them to uncover their own paths toward wellness. I look forward to exploring what a meaningful life and thriving look like for you, and what might help you realize that vision.
Finding a well-matched therapist you feel you can trust is the first step in successful counseling. I am a compassionate and warm person whom others describe as bright and expressive. I am originally from SE Alaska, love gardening, cooking, traveling, and am a cat and dog person. While I strongly believe in the therapeutic power of holding an empathetic and non-judgemental space for clients to do their healing in, I am also honest and willing to gently challenge others with care. I genuinely enjoy social connection with people from many different backgrounds and walks of life, and I especially enjoy working with people who are adjusting to or managing disability or chronic illness, going through life-role and career transitions, wanting to overcome past hurts/trauma, or experiencing loss/grief.
Central to my approach to therapy is my belief that you are the rightful expert and the capable architect of your own life. I prioritize understanding an individual’s unique history, worldview and situation, supporting their own life-affirming values, and building upon their own innate strengths and capacities. Depending on individuals’ needs and preferences, I draw from a wide variety of therapeutic tools that may help them, including somatic and body-based practices, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapies including action and commitment therapy. My goals are to support individuals as they find their own peace and balance, and empower them to lead the lives they want to live.
