Hi! My name is Quill Hogan (they/them). My approach as a therapist is to assist you in creating a felt sense of internal connectedness and strength, as well as connectedness to others, and to reauthor narratives that resonate with you. I also support individuals and couples in cultivating affirming and authentic relationships to sex and sexuality.
I grew up in the Bay Area, California and spent most summers in Nojiriko, Japan, near where my mother was raised. Growing up as a bicultural auDHD kid, I often felt out of place, but experiences with people and systems that challenged the limiting stories I had about my place in the world helped me feel less alone. Having a white mother that was born and raised in Japan caused me to begin thinking about the complexities around race and culture at an early age, and prompted me to be curious about systems theory and cross-cultural psychology later on. However, my desire to mask to blend in and childhood trauma prevented me from truly exploring and affirming my own identities as a neurodivergent, queer, trans/nonbinary, polyamorous, and kinky person fully until my late twenties. Through personal work, chosen family, and community organizing, I’ve been able to learn how to confidently show up in the world as my authentic self.
This informs my desire to help others reweave the stories they have learned through family narratives and societal discourse, as well as integrate fractured parts so that meaningful change can occur. Additionally, I believe that connection to community and to the natural world is important for growth and healing, and that healing must exist in relation to others as well as ourselves. While I have worked with clients from many backgrounds, I’m especially passionate about working with individuals and couples exploring their relationship to sexuality and gender, polyamory and non-monogamy, kink, and sexual trauma. I also deeply enjoy working with neurodiverse and/or bicultural individuals and couples.
In our sessions, I will listen to your experiences, recognizing you as the expert, and collaboratively guide the direction of therapy. I operate from a systemic lens, primarily using narrative, internal family systems, emotions-focused couple therapy, and existential humanistic therapy.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature, traveling, organizing, writing, watching horror movies, singing in a queer choir, playing with my cats, and spending time with my friends, family, and partners.
