Hi, my name is Tehniya (Ta-hen-yeah). I identify as a cis-gender female, of South Asian descent. I was born in India and raised in California. I am fluent in Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, and English. As a pre-teen, having to move to the United States I had to adapt and adjust to the cultural and societal changes, which shaped my identity of belonging to two vastly different cultures.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative and client-centered. I highly emphasize the teamwork of both the client and the therapist in identifying and meeting each client’s individual needs and goals. I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, supportive and trustworthy environment for clients to freely share their thoughts, feelings, and lived experiences. In addition, I also provide tools for clients to use outside of the therapy sessions to utilize in order to overcome challenges. It takes courage and willingness to change to dedicate your time, energy and efforts to heal from past traumas, and old patterns of conditioning. Therefore, I encourage clients to practice self-compassion as we unravel the deeply conditioned behaviors and thought processes that have been adapted from childhood, and from life experiences, in order to fully thrive, and not just survive.
I utilize various evidence-based therapeutic interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family systems, and Solution-Based Focused Therapy. I look forward to working with individuals, couples, and families of all ages, race, sexual orientation, ethnicities, genders and cultures.
